Broadway House- A 5 STAR FACILITY

Federal officials unveiled a five-star rating system that for the first time ranks the quality of the nation’s 15,800 nursing homes that participate in Medicare or Medicaid.

Broadway House for Continuing Care was one of only 12% of nursing homes nationwide to receive a five-star rating. The rating system is based on state and federal health inspection surveys, quality of care data and staffing information. A five-star ranking indicating that a nursing home is performing well above average.

Out of the thirty-three facilities in Essex County Broadway House was one of only six locations to receive five-stars, and is the only facility given this ranking in the city of Newark.

This superior rating is a reflection of the dedication, skill and devotion of the staff and administration at Broadway House. Our mission is to work with our residents to ensure that their medical, social and psychological needs are met with discharge back to the community the ultimate goal for every resident if possible.

“Excellent resident care is our priority at Broadway House” explained James Gonzalez, President and CEO. “It is nice to be acknowledged for our accomplishments but it is our dedication to the people who call our house their “home” that keeps us motivated to challenge ourselves to continually improve.”

The components of the rating system are significantly influenced by the quality of a nursing home’s staff. At Broadway House, staff turnover is significantly less than the industry average. “Staff retention has a direct correlation to positive resident outcomes” states Jeanine Reilly, Executive Director. “When you have a team of caregivers that know the personalities and preferences of the residents, the result is a more home-like atmosphere and ultimately better care.

By creating a working environment that fosters cooperation, respect and accountability, the employee retention rate has risen dramatically under Reilly’s leadership.
