Brian Gooden and “The Uprising”. |
Broadway House for Continuing Care celebrated Black History Month with an art exhibit by local artist, Brian Gooden. Gooden grew up in Newark and saw an opportunity to give something back to the community by displaying his pieces for our residents’ enjoyment. Gooden displayed a variety of images which represented the cultural heritage of African Americans. He also included pieces on Greek mythology and the Bible.
One of his most moving pieces, “The Uprising”, depicts a slave ship moving through the waters with the slaves either choosing to die in the shark infested waters or taking their chances with the crew.
