Family Fun Day

On June 3, 2006, Broadway House held a very special event. At our 1 st Annual Family Fun Day, residents and their loved ones came together throughout the day to partake in food, games, and fun.

Some of the activities at Family Fun Day included a frog hop, tic-tac-toe, a moonwalk, and a dunk tank, where residents could submerge their favorite Broadway House staff members. There were hundreds of prizes handed out, from stuffed animals to basketballs. Participants also enjoyed popcorn, cotton candy, and a delicious BBQ lunch. A number of volunteers were on hand to help the event run smoothly.

Inspired by Broadway House’s monthly birthday parties, for which family turn-out has been stellar, Family Fun Day was a big success, with over 100 guests in attendance. The event was an extension of Broadway House’s unique undertaking to eliminate the isolation that acute care and society often impose on people living with HIV/AIDS, as it provided family members with the opportunities to spend time with and show support for their loved ones.

The atmosphere at the event can best be described by the mothers of two residents. Says Shirley White, “It gives me time to really enjoy being with [my daughter]. It’s like what we used to do, when we used to have cookouts in the backyard. It’s like before she got sick.” Helen Gere adds, “Everybody seems so happy today. It’s really great. This brings the families much closer.”
